The Red Cross and Red Crescent

Currently the Red Cross and Red Crescent are currently discussing how war crimes in video games fall under the Geneva and Hague conventions.  Many members of the two committees feel as if the companies that make these ENTERTAINMENT products are breaking the law when a character in the game violates the geneva convention..  The full article can be read here.

In all honesty I feel this is absolutely ridiculous.  This is a form of media entertainment, whatever happened to freedom of expression.  Is a painter not allowed to paint a picture of someone being tortured if thats what they want to paint?  From what I understand, they feel as if this is training our young to be war criminals.  Although, every game that has something to that extent in it is rated M for mature (which means you must be an adult to play it.  17 in some states and 18 in others).  Therefore they should be able to understand what they are being entertained by is not real.  On the other hand if it is being based off of what kids are seeing, you should look at changing what parents think about buying their children these apparently horrible forms of entertainment.

Video game design is an art form, and last time I checked there are no rules against types of art.  Someone is allowed to display nuclear warfare, which results in millions of deaths, in many different types of art, but soon video games may not be able to which is absolutely outrageous.

Video games should NOT be governed, they have absolutely NO right in doing so.  Unless they decide to govern all types of art then I will always be against this outrageousness.
