The Release of Battlefield 3

This past week was the official release of Battlefield 3.  It was much of what you would expect from such a large game release.  The game had its glitches and bugs just like any other good title on release day, although most of these problems were solved and patched within 24-48 hours.  The community for the game has been both supportive and aggravated because of the bugs left in the final version before the game was patched, but most of the aggravation blew right over due to the anxiousness of most to just get on to the battlefield.  Personally I have been enjoying it a lot, and have spent about 10 hours total playing it so far since its release last tuesday, and I was also surprised to find that many kids on campus are enjoying it too.  I realized this when I was kept up till 4 am thursday night due to my RA in the room to the left of mine and my other neighbor in the room to the right both playing it very loudly.

Personally I feel that as this game is taking off it is redefining everything you will see in a first person shooter due to the immense size of the maps and the game engine it is running on (frostbite 2.0).  You are going to see a lot more shooters start to add destruction and other lifelike characteristics to their games which make them similar to battlefield.

My only hope is that EA and DICE don't keep up with their current track record of releasing a game, supporting it for 4 - 6 months and then just forgetting it and not releasing any more updates or bug fixes for years.  They design very good games but then it seems like they stop caring after the release of the game.  I'm hoping that since DICE is a part of the development of this game that this will not happen and the game will be enjoyed for years to come just like Battlefield 2 was.

I highly recommend anyone that likes war games to pickup this game and give it a shot, or go to a buddies house and try to convince him to let you play for a little bit! You will not regret it!

I will leave you with a video:
