This year is a very exciting year in the gaming community. There are many big releases coming later this year. Some of those being:
- Gears of War 3
- Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
- Resistance 3
- Rage
- Batman: Arkham City
- Battlefield 3 (finally!!)
- Uncharted 3
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
- DOTA 2
- Guild Wars 2
- and possibly Star Wars the Old Republic
These are all very anticipated games, although we also have a clash of 2 of the most popular first person shooters ever! That being Battlefield 3’s long awaited release, and the release of Modern Warfare 3. Battlefield is being release in late October, where as Modern Warfare is being released in mid-November. These two games are being compared very critically in the gaming community and both of these games have large hardcore fan bases. Although, I personally am more excited for Battlefield than Modern Warfare, I do not think it is proper to compare these 2.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Modern Warfare 3 is the 8th installment in the Call of Duty franchise, and there are many rumors going around that this game is just a modded version of Modern Warfare 2. Which in all honesty may not be a bad thing, seeing as besides the flaws it had, Modern Warfare 2 was a solid arcade shooter. Arcade being the keyword here. Call of Duty, is played competitively but is more of an arcade styled shooter with all of its perks and design methods. That does not mean it’s bad by any means it just means they gun for more of a fun, absolutely anyone can pick this game up and be decent at it, mentality. All in all I do think MW3 will be a solid game, but you won’t see much difference or improvement from the last couple Call of Duty’s. They are sticking with the engine for the game, which means you still game the awesome fluid gameplay mechanics, but you also get the not so awesome 5 year old graphics. My final judgement on this game is: If you want a game you can pick up and play, something not to realistic or if you love the Call of Duty or the Modern Warfare series, or if you just want to play an arcade style first person shooter, then this is the game for you. Personally, I will be buying this game only because I know all of my friends will and I enjoy playing with my friends from time to time.

Battlefield 3
On the other hand, Battlefield 3 is in the family of many other Battlefield games, but only the 3rd of its unique gameplay and story type. A little bit more is actually known about Battlefield 3 than MW3 so far this year, because of its earlier release date. Battlefield 3 is redesigning the first person shooter gaming genre in whole. Its won to many reward to name at the many gaming conventions the past year and is leaving people speechless. People have said that when they walked up to the big screen at E3 or PAX gaming conventions, they thought they were watching real military footage because of the realism and destruction. The game is running on EA’s Frostbite 3.0 engine, which is bringing out some of the best graphics we have ever seen and the most realistic destruction in any game to date. Not only is it refining the gaming community with its graphics and destruction, the entirely redefined movement system that the Battlefield team has integrated from the EA sports games makes this the most realistic playing experience yet. They have taken the dynamic sound and dynamic lighting to the next level also. EA and Dice have done an incredible job with this game, my words will not do it justice. Battlefield is a realistic first person shooter, that is not classified in the arcade shooter genre. I recommend this game to anyone that likes shooters or any competitive players that enjoy realism because this game is redefining it all. Personally I am highly anticipating Battlefield 3 and will spend many hours playing it in the upcoming months.

My final opinion on the clash of these 2 titans is that there really is no comparison, Call of Duty will be good for the fans of arcade shooters and Battlefield 3 for the fans of realistic shooters.
